WELCOME TO THE HALTON HILLS FIRE PROTECTION AND PREVENTION SERVICES

Halton Region Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is a division of the Halton Region Health Department. On August 16th, 2000 Halton Region assumed direct responsibility for the delivery of the Emergency Medical Services in Halton.

Halton Region is committed to improving service delivery by reducing ambulance response times and expanding the skills of Paramedics. Since August 2000 Regional Council approved funding for the hiring of additional Paramedics and the purchase of extra ambulance vehicles and “state of the art” defibrillation equipment.

Halton EMS has also increased the number of paramedics in Oakville, Milton and Burlington. Further staffing enhancements have been approved and are scheduled for this year. In March 2002 the new headquarters for EMS opened at the Woodlands Operations Centre, 1179 Bronte Road in Oakville. A 24-hour ambulance base is also operating from this new facility.

In 2003, we expanded the number of ambulance station locations with the construction of new replacement stations in Acton and Milton and an additional station in Campbellville. Additional Oakville and Burlington stations will follow in 2004.

With Advanced Care Paramedics now working in all local municipalities, Halton Region has made an important step towards equalizing the delivery of care throughout the Region. Halton’s ultimate goal is to maintain at least one Advanced Care Paramedic on board each ambulance at all times.

As the above indicates, Halton is committed to making changes and improvements to the system to ensure that all of its residents receive exceptional pre-hospital care.
